What is RSD Diaries?
RSD Diaries is a documentary, currently in the filming process, that is about Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy and people afflicted by it. It is primarily from the perspective of video and photo journal entries. It is filmed with whatever is most convenient for journaling, I use my webcam and handheld camcorder.
Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, also know as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, is a neurological syndrome. It is characterized by severe searing/aching/pulling/stabbing/throbbing/freezing pain, changes in bone and skin, excessive sweating, tissue swelling, extreme sensitivity to touch and experiencing pain from “non-painful” simuli. It is usually caused by an injury though sometimes an injury cannot be determined. For more information please visit www.rsdsa.org
The ultimate goal of this project is to spread awareness. Because half the problem with recovering from RSD is the lack of knowledge on the part of the physician. Studies are limited and the condition is rare and often misdiagnosed. Finding doctors who do not specialize in neurology or pain who even recognize the name Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, is difficult. Finding doctors who treat it is even harder.
I hope that I will be able to bring this documentary to the public eye when it is finished, and in doing so, bring RSD/CRPS out of the shadows. I hope that public awareness will lead to the eventual betterment of treatment of those afflicted. Because we live with this everyday of our lives. Even in remission the pain does not disappear completely.
